While everyone experiences temporary feelings of depression in response to unmet goals or dashed expectations, depression is classified as a disorder when symptoms, including persistent low mood, last for more than two weeks. In addition to unrelenting sadness, depression can affect various bodily systems, impacting areas such as sexual desire and pain perception, leading to overall impaired functioning.

In our early years, we learn various skills and come to believe that knowledge is crucial for happiness and survival, as it provides a sense of validity, belonging, and control over our lives. This belief leads to anxiety as we age and feel less equipped with knowledge, despite the persistent notion that knowing is essential for safety and well-being. However, we also crave a lasting sense of peace amidst life’s uncertainties, mistakenly thinking that more thinking will lead us to serenity. This creates a tension between our desire for control and the need for inner calm.
